Your First Driving Lesson

Looking forward to your first driving lesson can be exciting prospect for some people, and others are full nerves and anxiety. However, knowing what to expect and what might happen will help you prepare for the lesson and make things easier on the day. Being a little nervous before your first lesson is perfectly normal-as you are going to be meeting someone new, and learning how to do something you have never done before, something you always wanted to do. Rest assured that your driving instructor will do everything they can make you feel comfortable and hopefully alleviate any fears and nerves you may have.

If you don’t have any driving experience, they will probably take you somewhere quiet for your first lesson, knowing as a Nursery Road, so there I less traffic around you. In addition, your instructor has dual controls to STOP the car if they need to, as their job is kept you, them and other road users safe.

Learning to drive takes a lot of concentration so try to ensure you are well rested and have plenty of sleep and energy for your lessons.

Automatic or Manual Driving Lessons?

We can offer you both. You decide.

In the UK most people learn to drive in a car with a manual gear box, as it gives a larger choice of cars to use after passing.

  • If you haven’t yet driven a car, opt for manual driving lessons. Even if you find the endless gear changing tedious, once you’ve passed you can always drive an automatic. The benefit here though is that you can always use a manual car if there’s ever a need to.

  • If time is an issue and you need a driving licence as quickly as possible, then choosing automatic lessons will likely get you there quicker.

  • Then there’s the learners who simply cannot get the hang of that clutch and endlessly stall the car. Whether you persevere with it is up to you, but personally I’d recommend ditching the manual and switching to automatic lessons – it’s easier and far less stressful. You might meet one or two minor setbacks with a lifetime ownership of an automatic licence, but nothing that can’t be solved.

Driving School offers you, Hyundai i20 -2019 Manual & Hyundai i10-2018 Automatic car.

Your first in-car driving lesson. Here’s what to expect.

Sener Driving School Published: October 26, 2020 updated April 14,2021.

Excited. Nervous. A mixture of the two? However you’re feeling about your first in-car driving lesson, it might help to have an idea of what to expect. We can help with that.

Here are ten things that are likely to happen during your very first in-car driving lesson.

1. You’ll need to show your license.

To legally be allowed to drive during your first in-car driving lesson, your instructor will ask to see your learner’s permit or student license. You must carry it with you every lesson.

2. You won’t jump straight into the driver’s seat.

No need to worry about your friends videoing you driving off for the very first time. Your instructor will drive you away from your pick-up location to either a parking lot or other quiet residential area.

3. Your nerves won’t get the better of you.

It’s normal to feel anxious about your first lesson. But, your instructor is trained to put you at ease so learning can take place. Take a deep breath and relax. You’ll soon find yourself enjoying the drive.

4. You’ll look in the mirror. A lot.

During your first in-car driving lesson, the instructor will discuss the car’s instruments and controls. And, you’ll discover why the mirror is important. So important that you can expect your instructor to discuss it in even more detail during another lesson.

5. You WILL drive

Of course you will — it’s what you’ve been waiting for! But during your first in-car driving lesson, you won’t have to worry about other cars or traffic. You’ll get to try out a few basic manoeuvres and learn some important techniques. These are techniques that will set you up for a lifetime of safe driving.

6. You might switch seats. Several times.

Our instructors know that you learn not just by listening through your ears, but by observing skills and actions performed correctly. That’s why you might switch sides with your instructor several times. If this happens, watch carefully. Whether it be showing you how to hold the steering wheel, do a smooth start or stop or use your eyes, you can’t beat a real-life demo combined with explanations on paper.

7. You won’t drive for miles and miles.

You’ll probably only cover a total of 4-6 miles during your first in-car driving lesson, sometimes less, sometimes a bit more. You will not just be “driving around,” but will experience lots of pulling over, where the car will turn into your classroom.

8. You can ask as many questions as you like.

Don’t understand something? That’s normal. During your first in-car driving lesson, you’re almost certain to have questions. Ask your instructor about anything you do not understand or do not feel comfortable with. Even better, ask them to show you. Believe it or not, your instructor can learn a lot from you too!

9. You won’t be alone.

You + your instructor = a great TEAM! Remember, your instructor is highly trained and wants to help you succeed. And they do have an instructor brake which they can use if need be, so rest assured your instructor will be there, for whatever reason!

10. You’ll get a personalized report.

Our instructors evaluate your progress after your very first in-car driving lesson, and every subsequent in-car driving lesson. They then put together a personalized report which you and your parents can access online. So, even though your parents already know how great you are, you can now give them something else to be proud of!

First-lesson nerves. What nerves? Hopefully you’re now feeling a little more prepared for that first in-car driving lesson.

What to Bring

First of all, you will need to bring your provisional driving licence along to show the instructor, but why not also take a bottled drink in case you get thirsty. If you wear glasses or contact lenses then make sure you have them with you, as your instructor will need to check your eyesight. The minimum standard is that you must be able to read a standard is that you must be able to read a standard car registration plate at distance of 20.5 metres.

Failing to bring glasses or lenses your lesson will be Cancelled immediately without any refund.

What to Wear

Wear clothes that are comfortable and not too restrictive so that you can move freely-as you will be looking left and right over both shoulders, moving your arms to control the steering wheel, and pushing the foot pedals-sometimes all at once!

We recommend wearing comfortable trainers or shoes that allow you to feel the car pedals, as this will help with your car control. Wearing the same shoes for every driving lesson is a good idea as you get used to how the pedals feel in those shoes. However, you are not allowed the drive with slipper or sandals if so your test will be cancelled without any refund.

If you get too hot or cold in the car tell the instructor as they wont mind adjusting the car climate control.

Enjoy the day

Most importantly have fun on your first lesson. Don’t worry about any mistakes you made, as nobody is perfect and mistakes are something to learn from. We all do. Try to enjoy the feeling of sitting in drivers seat that way you can learn fast.

Try be friendly to each other’s because you are going to spent some time together. Try to be comfortable with he/she. We believe in friendly environment success can be achieve.

Driving is a big life skill that can open many doors and opportunities. Try listen what you have been mentor and make sure you understand. What you doing and why you are doing it.

You and you instructor will work together to help you learn as quickly as possible, and of course pass the driving test once you’re able to drive safely on your own.
